Since moving to MN, I've been seriously amused by the volume and wackiness of the MN state symbols. Below is the list, as published by the state legislature (http://www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/symbols.asp)
In addition to such standards as...
State Bird: the loon
State Flower: pink and white lady slipper (Cypripedium reginae)
State Tree: red or Norway pine (Pinus resinosa)
State Motto: Star of the North
State Song: "Hail Minnesota"
Minnesota has also designated a...
State Butterfly: the monarch
State Drink: milk
State Fish: walleye
State Gemstone: Lake Superior agate
State Grain: wild rice
State Muffin: blueberry
State Mushroom: morel (morchella esculenta)
State Photo: "Grace" by Eric Enstrom
You betcha.

I feel so much better knowing that other states have crazy state designations. Minnesotans do seem to know and reference their state things more often as I never knew about the PA state stuff.
I'm glad to know that MA also has a state muffin. And I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that ice cream is not the state dessert.
Kentucky is the other one. I'm not moving to Kentucky just to experience another Commonwealth. :)
Virginia and Kentucky's state beverages are also milk (1982 & 2005 respectively). I'm starting to smell a conspiracy. Not surprising then that MA to buckle to the trend.
Virginia has a state bat (the Virginia Big Eared Bat - I wonder if the other bats tease it). They've also chosen a state shell (oyster) and a state dance (square).
I'm feeling so much better about MN's wacky symbols.
arrgghhh...typo
