Three cheers for the squirt bottle

It came out this weekend and they are officially annoyed by it. The first few times I squirted them, there was a fair amount of puzzlement (which resulted in a very wet Beau). Since then, I only have to brandish it and they leave off the bad behavior.

I need a new one for upstairs. But the one I have has proven effective in keeping kittens off the kitchen counters and dining room table.

Yay!

Sandwich night a smashing success

We had lamb burgers at Kate's place. Super tender and savory. I had mine in a pita with spinach leaves, cucumber salad, yogurt and feta. mmmmmm...delish.

For dessert, I brought dulce de leche and clementines. Wow - it's a surprisingly good combination. Mellow and citrus-y. again I say mmmmmmm.

While eating we continued tradition by watching a very bad show and mocking it mercilessly. Take that, bad television!

Kitten's continue the reign of cuteness.

When did the freezing rain fall?

One of my chores this weekend was to remove the stuff thats been hanging out in my trunk for a while. So on Sunday, after I shoveled (thank goodness I don't have a corner lot), I went to the car for the first time since Friday. Hello sheet of ice covering my car. Took forever to scrape that sucker off, even with the car helping.

On the fun side, I got to hang out, make tasty food (quiche, peanut-sesame noodles and lot of things with cheese) and watch the Boys at play. They sure love to wrestle and chase each other around.

Friday was their last distemper shot. I found out the nickname they were given by the vet staff when boarding is "the babies". (nicer than "demon cat", which was Tempest's nickname from the vet staff.) They love them there. We played, I asked questions and they got their shots. Vet doesn't get to see them again for a year, at which point they will no longer be babies.

One last shot

The boys and I head back to the vet for their last kitten shot. Then we'll stop on the way home to buy toys and other necessary kitten stuff.

We are getting used to each other and personalities are getting more clear. Dulce is a climber. Need to channel that into something more constructive than climbing chairs (or me. I know I should dissuade him of this, but it's so cute.). Dulce is also the one who thinks something evil lives in my hair and must be attacked regularly.

Beau likes trash cans. Likes knocking them over and digging around in them. Likes finding bits of trash to relocate per his whims. Beau is also the most determined to eat my food. He doesn't take a hint and will walk right onto the plate if I'm not watching. Two nights ago this resulted in him tracking mac and cheese over me (until I grabbed him and cleaned his paw). I think I'll be eating at the table for a while (it's more easily fortified).

They make me laugh and make my heart go all squishy warm. I think we'll keep each other.

Sometimes heaven, sometimes hell

Monday - I worked at home, sitting at the dining room table with sunlight streaming in. Christmas carols filled the air and kittens tested how long they could stand on the table before I scooped them up and off. I had a pot of tea at my elbow and a turkey sandwich for lunch.

Tuesday - I left work at 2:30 to take the boys across town (14 miles) to the vet for a 4pm appointment. I wanted to get to the vets before my 3pm conf call started. Three and a half hours later, I staggered home. I had a kitten in each hand and left everything else in the ice and snow encrusted car. We never made it to the vets.

You have your good days and your bad ones.

Getting to know you,

Getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you,
Getting to hope you like me.

That would be the boys and I. Things have settled down enough that we are starting to really get to know each other. I'm working on where boundries will be. One of them is "cats are not allowed on the dining room table." Can't say this sits well with the boys, who just want to explore and be where I am, and right now I'm working at home at the dining room table.

Compromises can be found. Voila.

Meet The Boys

Kittens! I adopted them last night. They are brothers, 14 weeks old. And boys! Never had boys before. They won my heart last night at the humane society. And they kept me up last night, racing around and wrestling. But they also snuggled with me and gave me kisses.

I'm still working on names.
